Hi Everyone, and welcome back to our little blog! We are so happy to announce that we are gearing up for the 4th leg of our cross-country bicycle odyssey, this year beginning in Louisville, Kentucky and finishing in DC. The ride is about 1100 miles, will begin on June 15th and end somewhere around July 9. Devon and I will be camping along the way, and are training hard to be in the best possible shape for the journey.
We are delighted to have added some new friends to our team this year! Jay Thompson will handle media communication duties, Yvonne Liu is in charge of marketing merchandise, Kaylinda Mabry is very busy with community outreach and advertising, Jay Reti is handling special arrangements for our kickoff event (lots of info below on that!) and the leader of our pack (not new to Spinning to End Finning!) is Gaylene Ewing, who does essentially everything including project oversight, graphics, web design and maintenance, and is the brainchild of this year’s FABULOUS kickoff concert on May 10th. We would also like to acknowledge Art’s Cyclery of San Luis Obispo who is supporting our campaign this year with help shipping our bikes across the country, along with the donation of a gorgeous road bike to be given away at our concert! Art’s you ROCK!
Yes, we are going to have a fantastic kickoff concert on the evening of May 10 from 5-9 at Pomar Junction Winery in Templeton. There will be superb wine, compliments (yes, tasting is complimentary!) of Pomar Junction, great food (catering by Stein’s BBQ), awesome music by The Truth About Seafood, a silent auction with really, really cool stuff, a raffle drawing (Grand Prize a brand new Orbea road bike compliments of Art’s Cyclery of SLO), and a 100 foot human shark fin (compliments of everyone who comes!) to be photographed from above. As always, 100% of the proceeds from our campaign will go to shark conservation efforts in Costa Rica. We give all of the money raised to Pretoma (pretoma.org), an award-winning ocean advocacy organization in Costa Rica. Tickets for this year’s concert are $16, and can be purchased here on our website, or at the winery on May 10.
We are eager to make this year’s campaign the best ever – best being defined as raise more awareness about sharks, and more money to support groups that are working on their behalf. Thank you for your support and encouragement and compassion for the wonderful animals, and the ocean they inhabit. Stay tuned!
