Beginning July 1st, 2011, an official ban on the possession of shark fins in the state of Hawaii will take place. This is great news! A bill that will hopefully pave the way for other policies that support shark conservation. A bowl of shark fin soup, a popular dish thought to have certain health benefits, can be served up from somewhere between $50 and $100. Restaurants serving this Chinese cultural delicacy, are now instructed to exhaust their inventories between now and July 1st, 2011, or otherwise experience hefty fines.
This legislation needs to become contagious! Write your local representatives to establish important limitations on the use of shark fins.
